JOHN B. WALLACE

SPECIAL COUNSEL

Biography

John Wallace specializes in handling insurance-coverage work and appeals. Although he handles a broad range of coverage work, he concentrates on coverage issues involving general liability, homeowners, and auto policies. Mr. Wallace has represented clients in the appeal of cases involving medical malpractice, legal malpractice, products liability, construction defects, premises liability, insurance coverage, insurance bad faith, discovery disputes, toxic torts, deceptive trade practices, breach of contract, sanctions, and wrongful termination. Mr. Wallace handles the firm’s appeals and also handles appeals and appellate issues for attorneys and clients outside the firm.

Mr. Wallace practiced for 13 years as a trial lawyer following a judicial clerkship with the Hon. Lucius D. Bunton, U.S. District Judge, Western District of Texas. His past experience as a trial lawyer provides a solid background for his work advising other attorneys about discovery matters, evidentiary issues, expert challenges, and jury charge preparation and objections. He has created a 4-hour seminar about analyzing coverage issues in commercial general liability policies. That seminar has been accredited for continuing education for claims representatives by the Texas Dept. of Insurance.

Mr. Wallace was named a “Texas Super Lawyer” by Texas Monthly and Law & Politics magazines, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009.

Mr. Wallace is Board Certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Personal Injury Trial Law (1987), Civil Trial Law (1987), and Civil Appellate Law (1997). He has been elected by his peers to Associate membership in the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). Mr. Wallace is a member of the Appellate Practice Section of the Houston Bar Association and the State Bar of Texas. He is admitted to practice in all Texas state courts, the U.S. District Courts for the Southern, Northern, Western, and Eastern Districts of Texas, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.

Mr. Wallace received his B.A. from Yale University in 1976, and his J.D. (with honors) from the University of Texas School of Law in 1979. He has received Martindale-Hubbell’s highest (AV) rating.
